Eat Healthy Lose Weight

Healthy eating habits can be hard to develop in an age where much of our food comes ready prepared and is laden with sugar, salt and fat.

Try some of these tips for a healthy diet that will help you to lose weight. The first rule of a healthy diet is to make sure that you eat a wide variety of foods to make sure that you get all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs.

  • Eat lots of high fibre foods that contain good carbohydrates such as fruit, vegetables, beans and wholegrain foods such as brown bread, pasta and rice.

  • Cutback on foods that are high in sugar, salt and those made from refined grains such as white bread and biscuits.

  • Reduce the amount of animal fat in the diet as it is high in saturated fat and raises cholesterol levels. Try eating more good fats that are found in foods such as avocados, nuts and olive oil.

  • Increase the amount of fish in your diet. Ideally two portions should be eaten each week and one of these should be an oily fish such as mackerel or salmon. Oily fish contains omega fatty acids that are good for the heart.

Reducing alcohol consumption is an excellent way of making diet healthier. Alcoholic drinks add many calories to your diet without providing any nutrition.

If possible keep daily intake of cholesterol below 300 milligrams to maintain a healthy heart and blood vessels. Cholesterol is found in most dairy products, meat and egg yolks.
