The correct diet is essential if you want to lose weight and it will be impossible to lose weight if you are eating the wrong foods.
Losing weight is one of the best things that you can do to improve your health.
When you lose weight you reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes and some forms of cancer. Losing weight also helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
One of the best ways to lose weight is by reducing the amount of saturated fat that is found in our every day diet. Saturated fats are found in foods such as sausage rolls, pies, biscuits and cakes. Try eating more good fats that are found in foods such as nuts, avocados and extra virgin olive oil.
An easy way to improve your diet and help you lose weight is by eating lots more fruit and vegetables. By bulking up your meals with lots of vegetables you leave less room for other less healthy foods. Fruit and vegetables are high in fibre and vitamins and low in calories so make sure that you eat at least 5 servings a day.
Switching to wholegrain foods such as brown bread, pasta and rice provides more fibre and nutrients than the white versions. Wholegrain foods take longer to digest so they keep us feeling fuller for longer.
Whilst the correct diet is important in losing weight exercise also has a large part to play. Exercise helps to burn off excess calories and builds muscle tissue in the body. Muscle tissue is important for strength and flexibility and because it burns calories at a rate that is 10 times higher than that of fat tissue. This means that the more muscle tissue you have the more calories you can burn without trying.
